Our build in Oklahoma City was the most productive build that we have had for the whole trip. We showed up to a house with just its concrete foundation laid, and it was our job to put up all the framing for the walls. We came, we saw and we conquered through the 100 degree heat of the day. Everyone was working together, the Habitat staff always had a task for us to complete and we had a great time!
The Habitat for Humanity has a powerful leader who has been able to use her connections in order to grow the organization. Their endowment is very high, they receive free donations of GREEN products that make them the most Environmental Friendly Home Builders in the state and they have a whole development devoted to Habitat Houses. They took care of us very well as all meals were provided and we stayed at a great church somewhat close to the downtown area.
My highlight of the stop was being able to spend some quality time with Uncle Pete & his girlfriend Patty. They picked me up from the church, cooked great meals and gave me a bed to sleep on for both nights. He even woke up at 4 AM to drop me off at the church for our 6 AM bike departure! I got to explore the city with Patty as we checked out the downtown, the river, the memorial and the nicest neighborhoods in the city! Big Thank You for making my stop in Oklahoma City such a great one!

Fundraising & Awaremess
In order to take part of this trip, I will be reaching to family, friends and complete strangers to help raise $4,000.
I am in Phase I of writing to family, friends and local community organizations. So far it looks good, and I will be constantly reaching out to new people

What is Bike and Build?
Bike and Build is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending poverty housing through creative means: cross-country cycling trips. By leading cross-country cycling trips for young adults, Bike and Build raises money for affordable housing projects and awareness of the issues, and gives young adults the chance to learn about affordable housing issues, educate others and participate in a solution.
Our Route
Starting on May 25th, we will set off from Charleston, South Carolina, to bike trip through towns and cities across southern and central US to Santa Cruz, California.
Along the way, we will be hosted by a plethora of community organizations that will offer meal and/or housing. In order to thank these organizations, we will offer a thank you donation and a presentation of our cause to their community.
Along with the biking, one day a week will be spent helping out at build sites with local affordable housing organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together. Our big project will be in Colorado Springs where over the course of nine days we will build an entire house on top of the foundation laid the week before by the NC to San Diego Route.
My Involvement
When I originally heard about the organization three years ago, I was satisfied with the idea of being a rider. After challenging myself throughout college, I knew that I had the ability to offer more to this organization. When I was offered a Trip Leader Position for this route, I was at first disappointed because I was set on doing the Northern US Route. After talking to the leaders of the organizations and past Trip Leaders, I realized the route is less important than being able to offer my greatest potential to Bike and Build.
I am completely excited for this opportunity to help plan this route with three other amazing trip leaders. As trip leaders, we will contact community organizations along our biking route to host our group by offering meals and/or overnight shelter. We are responsible for creating the daily bike routes, helping riders prepare for this trip, ensure the safety and well being for all the participants.

Updated Training
I met with a Personal Trainer to set up a workout regimen for Winter Training. The goal of the training is to use body fat as a main source of energy instead of carbohydrates by maintaining a moderate heart beat rate. Some of the rides will be spent concentrating on endurance where others will be geared towards my tempo. My lift exercises will incorporate all muscles of the body and there will be separate exercises to build up my leg strength. Don't be afraid to offer any suggestions.
Saturday: 3-3.5 Hour Bike Ride on Flat Terrain concentrating on my endurance heart rate of around 130
Sunday: 90 Minute Bike Ride that concentrates on my tempo heart rate of 149-152
Monday: REST
Tuesday: Cardio with Lift
