FUNDRAISER

Date & Time: May 2nd from 8 AM - 2PM
Location: Boulders Farmers Market (13th Street b/w Canyon & Arapahoe Avenue)

At the event, I will be riding in my fashionable bike outfit for the summer ride on a stationary bike for six hours. During this time, volunteers and I will be talking to the public about my ride answering any questions they may have. Full Cycle so far has volunteered to offer the trainer/rollers for the bike to be along!

I will be contacting local businesses for prizes that could be used for raffle prizes that donors can be entered for donating at the event. I need help in connecting with these local businesses, local newspapers for potential article on the event and volunteers to help out.

Closer to the $3000 Mark

I am inching closer and closer to that $3000 mark with my current total at $2847. You could be the one to put me over the edge of reaching the 75% mark!

Fundraising & Awaremess

In order to take part of this trip, I will be reaching to family, friends and complete strangers to help raise $4,000.

I am in Phase I of writing to family, friends and local community organizations. So far it looks good, and I will be constantly reaching out to new people

Phase II will revolve around reaching out to complete strangers by connecting with local newspapers to write a story about my trip and fundraisers in the Boulder & New Jersey (Hometown Area).

Our Route

Starting on May 25th, we will set off from Charleston, South Carolina, to bike trip through towns and cities across southern and central US to Santa Cruz, California.

Along the way, we will be hosted by a plethora of community organizations that will offer meal and/or housing. In order to thank these organizations, we will offer a thank you donation and a presentation of our cause to their community.

Along with the biking, one day a week will be spent helping out at build sites with local affordable housing organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together. Our big project will be in Colorado Springs where over the course of nine days we will build an entire house on top of the foundation laid the week before by the NC to San Diego Route.

My Involvement

When I originally heard about the organization three years ago, I was satisfied with the idea of being a rider. After challenging myself throughout college, I knew that I had the ability to offer more to this organization. When I was offered a Trip Leader Position for this route, I was at first disappointed because I was set on doing the Northern US Route. After talking to the leaders of the organizations and past Trip Leaders, I realized the route is less important than being able to offer my greatest potential to Bike and Build.

I am completely excited for this opportunity to help plan this route with three other amazing trip leaders. As trip leaders, we will contact community organizations along our biking route to host our group by offering meals and/or overnight shelter. We are responsible for creating the daily bike routes, helping riders prepare for this trip, ensure the safety and well being for all the participants.

My Inspiration?

With my graduation last May from Springfield College I came to a new point in my life. Seventeen years of classroom education have brought me to a place where I am choosing to start learning in a new way. I will spend the next two years of my life learning through new powerful experiences that represent what I stand for as a citizen. I am starting the next part of my life with a goal that I have always dreamt of; traveling across the country at the speed of fifteen miles per hour for a worthy cause that I believe in.

Updated Training

I met with a Personal Trainer to set up a workout regimen for Winter Training. The goal of the training is to use body fat as a main source of energy instead of carbohydrates by maintaining a moderate heart beat rate. Some of the rides will be spent concentrating on endurance where others will be geared towards my tempo. My lift exercises will incorporate all muscles of the body and there will be separate exercises to build up my leg strength. Don't be afraid to offer any suggestions.

Saturday: 3-3.5 Hour Bike Ride on Flat Terrain concentrating on my endurance heart rate of around 130
Sunday: 90 Minute Bike Ride that concentrates on my tempo heart rate of 149-152
Monday: REST
Tuesday: Cardio with Lift
Wednesday: 90 Minute Ride Ride on Flat Terrain for Endurance Heart Rate
Thursday: YOGA, PILATES or Rest
Friday: 90 Minute Bike Ride concentrating on Tempo HR
